The Dominican Republic is a country rich in history, culture, and natural beauty. Beyond its famous beaches and resorts, you’ll find one of the first cities in the Americas, Santo Domingo, home to centuries-old architecture and historical landmarks. Inland, the landscapes shift from lush rainforests to towering mountains. The island’s history is reflected in its diverse traditions, blending Taíno, African, and Spanish influences that shape its music, food, and way of life. Whether exploring local markets, visiting coffee plantations, or learning about its colonial past, there’s always more to uncover in the DR.
The Person Behind the Project
Hello! My name is Haley, and I’m currently a sophomore at Georgia Gwinnett College as of Spring 2025. For my digital media project, we were tasked with creating a website about something we’re passionate about—and for me, that’s the Dominican Republic!

I chose to create a travel page about the DR because of my deep cultural connection to the country. My dad was born and raised in Santo Domingo, and he has always shared his love for its rich culture, history, and traditions with my brother and me as we grew up. Through this site, I’m excited to showcase the beauty of the Dominican Republic by sharing photos I’ve taken during my many trips there.
Alongside these travel experiences, I’ll also be sharing the creative projects I’ve worked on in my digital media class. I hope this site gives you a glimpse into both my work and the vibrant essence of the DR!
